During my first week here, I remember a local telling me that he didn't have a favorite restaurant. He said that he goes to a new restaurant everyday because in Cape Town, you can do that. Coming from a town where there are about 10 restaurants, I couldn't imagine such an idea. But he was right! Cape Town is a hub for creative ingenuity, especially with its trendy restaurants. Most of my favorites are on Bree Street:
The Culture Cheese Club is my 2nd all time favorite. Owned by a couple, this small restaurant focuses on fermented food and drinks as well as fine cheese. My absolute favorites are their live culture smoothies, their mushroom risotto, and their 'kamboucha cocktails'. In house, they make milk products like kefir and yogurt and their own kamboucha. Their owners are wonderful and passionate people and it really shows in their food and service.
I quickly become a cult follower of a place based on how good their Instagram feed is and the owner Luke does not let me down. Check them out @lukecultureclub.
My #1 spot in Cape Town is Clarke's Bar and Dining Room. Their avocado on toast with lampeh sent me into culinary heaven. I died. I still think their burger is by far the best in town. Grass fed beef, good quality cheese, and a homemade flakey bun toasted to golden brown perfection. It doesn't even need condiments or other toppings. They have great specials and a pimms cup that looks more like a work of art. Also their employees seems wildly talented across the arts, I've stalked some instgrams. From designers to artists, they form a beautiful family and I really respect that.
More favorites in town include Sargent Pepper (2 for 1 pizzas every Tuesday) , Beer House, Knead, Bacon on Bree, Tiger's Milk, Lola's, Mojitos, Buena Vista, Hudsons, Mitico, Bacini's, and Primi.
